Undergrad Research

Throughout my undergrad, I an extensive amount of research mostly in Ecology and Wildlife diseases. Undertaking undergraduate research on wildlife diseases presents a vital opportunity to dive into the intricate interplay between ecosystems, wildlife populations, and human health. With biodiversity facing unprecedented threats from habitat destruction, climate change, and emerging infectious diseases, understanding the dynamics of wildlife diseases is paramount for conservation efforts and public health management.

My research focused on investigating the prevalence and transmission pathways of specific pathogens affecting vulnerable wildlife populations, particularly in Chytridiomycosis in amphibian populations in Southern Appalachia. By employing interdisciplinary approaches encompassing field surveys, molecular diagnostics, and ecological modeling, my study aims to elucidate the drivers of disease emergence and persistence, ultimately informing evidence-based strategies for disease prevention and wildlife conservation. Through this research endeavor, I learned a lot about lab techniques and spent a lot of time doing qPCR, eDNA, and GIS.

Through this experience I was able to present my research in two different Research Conferences. Those included LMU Research Day and 2021 Blue Ridge Undergraduate Research Conference. This is where students from institutions throughout Southern Appalachian region submits presentations ranging from arts, humanities, languages, health, nature, and computer sciences. I was able to take 1st place in both conferences for oral presentation.
