Rolling Strikes and Rolling Eyes— Pt.1

This series is inspired by Aj, who said it would be nice to write about all the hood-rat shii we went through during our time in junior bowling. I always told him not to bring up the past if it was something that impacted us in a negative way. So, I will leave all of that unnecessary drama and trauma out.

It all started in Aiea, Hawaii, where the Aiea Whiz Kids Bowling League welcomed me with open arms back in 2008. Bowling really was not a big thing in Hawaii growing up. Although it was introduced as a high school sport, the sport itself did not have that big of a crowd. My family was really big on bowling and my mom is a very respected female bowler which made my job a little harder to always try to beat her. Overall, it was always friendly competition. Saturdays was where the real fun was though. It was where me and my friends hung out. Not to brag because we love a humble queen, but we were the people that everyone wanted to be around.

After bowling we would always go to Aj’s grandma’s house and hangout. His grandma always made sure we were fed and LOVED to cook for us. There were 2 things we tried to achieve after bowling every Saturday. 1) a way to not go home so we can hangout. and 2) trying to find a way to keep Bryce awake. It was always a good time so shoutout to Ajs grandma because her house was THE SPOT.

Past all the bowling, there was so much drama! From crushes on boys to friendly rivalries with other alleys, it was never dull. Through it all, though, we stuck together and supported each other. This also created a lot of separation between “friends”. I can honestly say I hang out with less than 50% of the people I did then. But I am so thankful to the ones who stayed.

Thinking back, those days were filled with a lot of laughs and good times. Even though we're all grown up now, the friendships we made on those bowling lanes will always be special. I have met my best friends who became family to me and that was probably my greatest takeaway. In my next posts I will talk about some of the things we did. This was just an intro sooooo stayed tuned!
